Farm News: Last Years Winter - This Years BountycommentsPosted: 09.28.2010
Wollersheim Winery’s Ice Wine 2009 grapes were hand-picked at the winery vineyards last cold and snowy December, but now it’s time to taste this very special wine. Stop by the winery on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm to help celebrate the release of this "Gift from Wisconsin's Winter – Nectar of the Vines."
During this "sweet" mid-week celebration, visitors can sample a special complimentary tasting of the Ice Wine 2009, plus two other Wollersheim dessert wines – Very Late Harvest and River Gold. A combo plate featuring an icy-cold glass of Ice Wine, a slice of cheesecake, pecans, and frozen, sugar-dusted grapes is available for purchase along with all Wollersheim wines by the glass.
Soothing sounds of live harp music will set the tone. Also throughout the celebration, special guided tours will explain how Ice Wine is unique to our Wisconsin climate and include a wagon visit to the vineyard where the Ice Wine grapes hang until they freeze and are harvested later in December. Winemaker Philippe will also be on hand to answer questions and sign bottles of Ice Wine. The Winery Store is open extended hours until 7:00 pm. Weather permitting, the sunset and vineyard views can be enjoyed on the winery balcony or in the wine garden.
Wollersheim Winery is open for tours and tastings from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily, year-round. Located at 7876 State Road 188, the winery is across from Prairie du Sac and Sauk City between highways 60 and 12. For more information, visit www.wollersheim.com.
