Farm News: Wisconsin Rules Forage Superbowl

Everyone knows how weather can influence a farmers crops from year to year - but this must be the year for Wisconsin's forage producers.

The 27th Annual World Forage Superbowl finds four Wisconsin farmers at the top of their game in raising top quality forages.  This years event drew 270 entries from 25 states. 

The Grand Champion of the Forage Superbowl as a female grower from southeast Wisconsin.  Diane M. Pounder of Delavan earned to top slot and pocketed $2,500 from Case IH and bragging rights for a year!  The Champion "First Time Entrant" also went to a Wisconsin grower.  Tony Pecha of Bloomer got $1,500 for his efforts from Kuhn North America.

The samples entered a judged on a number of scientific measurements.  Ag Source Cooperatives testing lab in Bonduel analyzed all entries.

The Champion in the Dairy Hay category went to Denmark, Wisconsin growers David and Donald Schlies, and the Champion in the Dairy Haylage group went to McClellan Farms Inc., from Delavan.

Those weren't the only Wisconsin growers that did well in the competition.  Here's a few more!

In the Dairy Hay category - the top spot went to the Schlies from Denmark, but all of the second through fifth place winners were from Wisconsin!  David Olson of Lena; Randy Geiger of Reedsville; Karl & Barb Wogsland from Scandinavia and Mike McNamara of Emerald were all winners!

Mark Schlenvogt of Fredona; Gen Art Hillcrest Dairy of St. Cloud; Chase Holschbach, Baraboo; Dallmann Farms, Brillion; and Charles Church of Grand Marsh were addtional winners in their divisions.
