Farm News: WI FFA On Its Way

It's a story that doesn't always get as much attention as it should.  The "good" kids and what they're doing.  This week in Indianapolis - there are about 50,000 "good" kids all in one place.

The National FFA Convention officially begins on Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Plenty of Wisconsin FFA chapter members will arrive a little early to work side by side with city of Indianapolis officials in a "Day of Service".  The program, which is also implemented in Wisconsin, allows the FFA to thank their city host by dedicating some hours of service cleaning up parks, working with Habitat for Humanity or community food pantries.

Wisconsin is one of the power house states that will be at the convention.  This year, B.J. Chrisler of Sauk City will be serving on the National FFA Officer Nominating Committee!  The state has 190 members that will be awarded the American FFA Degree, plus 18 state proficiency award winners that are up for national honors too.  And let's not forget our two candidates competing for the highest of honors - the America Star awards.

Dylan Stichert and Dan Griesbach, both from the Marshfield FFA, are representing the state in that Star category.  Stichert looking for the American Star Farmer award and Griesbach competing for the American Star in Ag Placement.

Wisconsin's also the national leader in the FFA Alumni category.  Currently, Diane Amera of Stoughton is serving as National FFA Alumni President!
