The Wisconsin State Patrol is participating
in a program this week designed to prevent large-truck crashes.

Operation Safe Driver is designed to improve the behavior,
habits and decision-making of commercial motor vehicle operators
and other operators of large trucks.

The intensified safety enforcement effort designed to crack down
on speeding, following too close, improper lane changes, and
failure to obey traffic signs runs through Saturday. Commercial
motor vehicle operators will also be checked for various licensing
requirements and other regulations.

The State Patrol says last year large-truck crashes dropped 21
percent compared with 2008. Deaths caused by large-truck crashes
dropped nearly 12 percent over that time.
