Farm News: Look For Invasive Species Now

Posted: 10.28.2010

State wildlife officials say now's the time
to look for invasive plants.

DNR biologists say many invasive plants stand out in the fall.
First-year garlic mustard plants stay green in the fall, even under
snow. Aggressive shrubs, including buckhorn and honeysuckle, stay
green and keep their leaves into late fall. Many invasive shrubs
and vines produce distinct fruits that stand out in fall as well.

DNR officials warn many plants disperse seeds in the fall and
people should inspect their clothing to avoid moving invasive seeds
to unaffected areas.
