Wind storms that swept across Wisconsin last week have caused millions of dollars in damages to agricultural property according to Tom Thieding with Rural Mutual Insurance.
Thieding, in an interview with Pam Jahnke, said that as of Friday, Rural Mutual agents had received approximately 250 claim calls - with damages totaling around one million dollars so far. And he says it's not over yet. "It's going to take a while before farmers get around their properties to inspect things like doors that might have been sprung by the wind." Thieding advises that farmers and rural land owners make that property inspection within the next 30 days or so though - and contact your insurance provider as soon as possible. Thieding says in the case of Rural Mutual, they require estimates to settle claims and repairs, and that can take some time to assemble.
Thieding says the storms didn't concentrate in any particular geographic area either. "There's no pattern - we're getting reports from all over the state," he said. Thieding says most of the damages they've had reported are of gravity boxes that were tipped over - roofs that were damaged - and buildings that may have been impacted by the winds.
Remember, those 250 calls and one million dollar estimates are from just one insurance provider in the state so far.
