State wildlife officials are planning
controlled burns across southeastern Wisconsin over the next two
months.

The Department of Natural Resources says the burns will improve
grassland and wetland environments for a variety of wild species.
The burns help prepare sites for seeding native grasses, reduce
unwanted vegetation and invasive species and improve nesting
habitat for ducks and birds.

The agency plans to burn up to 1,000 acres on state land in
Walworth and Waukesha counties.
