Farm News: Record Yields in the Crop Production ForecastcommentsPosted: 11.11.2010 In the latest Crop Production Report, the USDA reports that 76% of corn is harvested across Wisconsin. The yield forecast is a record 162 bushels per acre. There are 2.95 million acres in the forecast for grain harvest in 2010. If this prediction is realized, production for the state would be 477.9 million bushels, which is a 7% increase from last year. Record high corn yields are expected in California, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
Soybean yield is forecast at a record high of 50 bushels per acre, up one bushel from last month’s forecast. This is a new record, being 3 bushels above the previous record set in 1998. Harvested soybean acreage is forecast at 1.63 million acres. This would give Wisconsin a production of 81.5 million bushels, which is up from 26% from 2009.
The Wisconsin potato crop is expected to be lower this year, with a yield of 410 hundredweight per acre. This is 50 hundredweight below last year’s record high. Acreage harvested is down 1,000 acres, to 62 thousand acres. The US fall potato production forecast is 361 million hundredweight, which is down 8% from last year. |
