Farm News: E85 For 85 Cents!commentsPosted: 11.18.2010 Oak Creek residents and neighbors can fill up their flex fuel vehicles (FFV) with E85 for $0.85 per gallon on Saturday, November 20 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Woodman’s Market. Woodman’s Market, 8131 S. Howell Avenue, Oak Creek, is hosting the event. For two hours, FFV drivers will have the opportunity to fill up their tanks with E85, a fuel blend 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.
Customers are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Oak Creek Salvation Army food pantry.
A special guest to the event will be Wisconsin resident Scott Dillman, who recently set a new Guinness Book of World Records for the longest journey on a pocket motorcycle. The old record was 450 miles. Dillman converted his cycle to run exclusively on E85. His trip, which took two attempts to complete, took him from his home in Lamartine (southeast of Fond du Lac) through Reedsburg, Wautoma, Wisconsin Rapids, Thorp, Baraboo, Portage, and Beaver Dam, before returning home – a total of 479 miles.
“The American Lung Association in Wisconsin recognizes E85 as a Clean Air Choice™ for its role in reducing harmful tailpipe emissions that cause lung disease,” says Jolene McNutt, clean fuels coordinator. “Widespread use of E85 in flex fuel vehicles is one way to improve air quality for all residents of Wisconsin, especially the Milwaukee area where air quality play a large role in the health of our communities.”
Flex fuel vehicles are typically designated by a yellow cap or a label inside the fuel door as an indication, and are the only vehicles approved for use of E85. Drivers who are uncertain whether their vehicles can use E85 can visit www.cleanairchoice.org to learn more, or ask during the promotion.
The event is sponsored by the American Lung Association in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board, Woodman’s, Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence, GM Corporation, Wisconsin Clean Cities Coalition, WBIA, United Cooperative, Didion Milling, United Grain Producers of Wisconsin, and Western Wisconsin Energy.
