There may still be a field or two of corn standing around Wisconsin - but the last official crop report for the year is done.
Monday, officials with the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service wrapped up their reporting year showing 96 percent of the states corn crop was harvested and 80 percent of fall tillage was complete.
One other item that they noted, were dry areas in southern Wisconsin. That dry weather can be an issue for establishment of some of the fall crops that have been planted like winter wheat. According to the WASS update, southwest Wisconsin had 23 percent of its land rated "short" of soil moisture. Southeast Wisconsin had about 28 percent of its land in "short" supply.
State officials said that any remaining crops that are still standing in the state probably just don't have a place to go. Drying and storage of grains in some areas has been jammed for weeks. Many grain elevators that Pam Jahnke talks to daily are also adjusting the hours they're open and operating this week - possibly complicating the situation for some growers.
