Farm News: Ott Happy To Chair Rural Development CommitteecommentsPosted: 11.30.2010
State Representative Al Ott (R-Forest Junction) has been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Rural Economic Development and Rural Affairs for the 2011-12 legislative session.
Ott's no stranger to committee activities related to rural Wisconsin. He has served as the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Assembly Committee on Agriculture, and said he welcomes the opportunity to take on the new challenge of leading this important committee.
“I am honored to have been selected to lead this significant committee,” said Ott. “Rural Wisconsin has tremendous potential to drive our state’s economy forward, and I am enthusiastic to work with my Assembly Republican colleagues on policies to maximize that potential.”
Ott recognizes the unique economic struggles facing rural Wisconsin and pledges to work hard to provide rural communities with policy tools to spur economic development.
“Getting people back to work and showing employers that rural Wisconsin is a great place to do business is a top priority,” Ott stated. “The Assembly Committee on Rural Economic Development and Rural Affairs will focus its attention on revitalizing Wisconsin’s rural economy.”
In naming Representative Ott to this post, Speaker-elect Jeff Fitzgerald pointed to Ott’s strong leadership on behalf of rural Wisconsin.
"Representative Ott has a proven track record of being an outstanding leader for agriculture and rural Wisconsin,” Fitzgerald said. “I am confident he has the knowledge and experience necessary to tackle the difficult economic issues facing rural Wisconsin, and I look forward to working closely with him in delivering a strong rural economic policy agenda,” added Fitzgerald.
