Farm News: Deer Hunt Numbers - Not Bad

It looks like Wisconsin deer hunters had a
good season in November.

The Department of Natural Resources says preliminary figures
show hunters took more than 218,000 deer during the just-completed
nine-day gun deer hunt. That's an 11 percent increase over the 2009
season.

The DNR says there were good hunting conditions on opening day,
and for the second time on record, no one was shot and killed while
deer hunting in Wisconsin. The first and last time that happened
was in 1974.

Statewide, hunters registered more than 102,000 bucks __ a 17
percent increase over 2009 __ and more than 116,000 antlerless deer,
a nearly 7 percent increase over last year.

Gun deer license sales totaled more than 621,000 at the close of
the hunt.
