Farm News: Dairy Business Recognizes Leaders

It wasn't just about a voting record - it was about showing leadership.

Tuesday the Dairy Business Association paused in their intense educational forum to recognize some of the leaders in the states industry.  One family has been on the cutting edge of testing the states livestock siting law.

Larson Acres of Evansville was presented the "Distinguished Leadership" award by the Dairy Business Association. The family dairy in the town of Magnolia in Rock county has been in one form of battle or another in an effort to grow their operation.

Laurie Fisher, executive director of DBA, told Pam Jahnke that the Larson family was truly deserving of the award for the time, money, and passion they continued to dedicate to the dairy industry - and its chance at growth.

The family has been in the same township dairying for over 90 years.  They routinely hold open houses at their operations to try and educate the consuming public - and answer any questions they might have about the 5,000 crop acres of 2,900 animals they care for.

Today the operation employs 53 local residents - including 11 family members.

Dairy Business Association also presented their "Legislative Excellence" awards to policy makers that supported measures designed to help dairying grow in Wisconsin.  Awards were presented to:

Senators:  Neal Kedzie; Judy Robson; and Luther Olsen
Assembly Representatives:  Joan Ballweg; Ed Brooks; Don Friske; Steve Kestell; Thomas Lothian; Phil Montgomery; John Murtha; John Nygren; Al Ott; Scott Suder and John Townsend.

The 11th annual business meeting of DBA continues through midday Wednesday.
