Farm News: Milk Price Ends WI Farmers Holiday Cheer

The Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service announced on Wednesday that average price Wisconsin dairy farmers receive for the milk they produced in November will go down about 11 cents a gallon or $1.30 per hundredweight.

Wisconsin farmers should receive, on average, $1.50 per gallon at the farm gate for the milk they produce - that's about $17.50 a hundredweight - and the first sign of a seasonal decline normally seen in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin dairy farmers aren't alone in this wicked downturn - California and Minnesota dairy farmers are facing the same sharp drop.  Michigan and Texas were about the only dairy producing states that expected a price increase for November.

Nationwide - the "U.S." milk price for November is $17.90 per cwt ($1.54 per gallon) which is 60 cents lower than last month, but 40 cents more than Wisconsin’s price.

For dairy farmers that were hoping for a little holiday cheer - I'm afraid the Wisconsin Ag Statistical Service just dropped a lump of coal in your stocking.
