Republican Gov.-elect Scott Walker said he wants someone with broad experience in agriculture and the respect of industry groups to serve as his cabinet secretary in that area.

Walker spoke about the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection position at a meeting Wednesday of the Wisconsin Dairy Business Association. That group has more than 750 members who are dairy farmers, cheesemakers and others in the dairy industry.

Walker said he wants someone as secretary who doesn't just have a background in dairy but has the support and respect of industry groups like the DBA and others. Walker says he's also looking for someone who can work well with state lawmakers.

"I want to make sure the person I put in that position, he or she, is someone who's got that sort of respect for the broad spectrum of agriculture and agribusiness organizations. I want someone who's got experience working with the Legislature as well," Walker said.

He has yet to name any of his cabinet secretaries. His term begins Jan. 3.

Check back later today - we're working to bring you video of Scott Walkers address before the DBA group.  Thanks to WISC-TV!
