Farm News: Walker To Address Farm Bureau

Hopefully the wintery weather moving into Wisconsin this weekend won't stop people from attending the 91st annual Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation convention in Wisconsin Dells this weekend.

Farm Bureau officials say they're planning on Governor-Elect, Scott Walker, to address the delegates on Sunday evening after a days worth of workshops.

A leading expert on the threat that animal rights activists pose to livestock agriculture will deliver the keynote presentation at the meeting.

Steve Kopperud, executive vice president of Policy Directions, Inc., is the founder and past-president of the Animal Agriculture Alliance. He will explain the threats to food production and livestock farmers that are posed by the recent successes of well-funded animal activist groups such as PETA and the Humane Society of the United States.

He will share a blunt and sometimes disturbing story about the effective but often questionable public relations techniques employed by animal activist groups.

Other speakers at the Annual Meeting include Mary Kay Thatcher, American Farm Bureau’s director of public policy, who will review the November elections and explain what it all means for Wisconsin farmers; David Meihak and Chuck Reitz, agency managers for the Rural Mutual Insurance Company will discuss worker’s compensation for farming operations; and Amber Radatz, an outreach specialist for UW-Extension will discuss the progress of the state’s Discovery Farms Program.

Pam Jahnke will be covering this years WFBF convention - watch for more details, and definitely step up and say hello if you'll be there!
