UW Extension will be hosting a series of Meat Animal Project WisLine teleconferences this winter for Fair Board staff, meat animal project superintendents and project volunteers who help create policy and structure to county livestock projects. These WisLines are held in county extension offices throughout the state of Wisconsin and run from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The topics and dates are:

Jan. 13 - Carcass shows, Ultrasound and alternatives to strengthen county livestock projects. This session will review options for counties to educate exhibitors and parents on how to measure value of meat animal projects. This will assist counties on finding the best fit for their situation. Speakers are: Ron Russell, UW Madison; Gary Onan, UW River Falls; Dewey Wachholz, UW River Falls Emeritus.

Feb. 10 – The facts of Paylean®. Dr. Tony Forshey will be discussing the facts of this swine product. He is the state veterinarian for the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

March 10 – Animal Welfare Preparation.  This session will assist county fairs in discussing ways to communicate regarding animal welfare and create risk management plans on this topic.
