State officials say more public water
systems delivered healthy drinking water last year.

The Department of Natural Resources reports that 97 percent of
11,422 public water systems met all health standards in 2009 and
didn't have a single sample exceed limits on regulated
contaminants. That's up from 96 percent in 2008.

The agency says 347 systems tested high for one or more
contaminants. Small water systems that serve motels, restaurants,
parks, taverns, churches and campgrounds accounted for 74 percent
of the violations.
