The state Building Commission has approved
a $10 million grant to Marshfield Clinic to set up a center to
train rural dentists.
Gov. Jim Doyle signed a bill last year that required the state
to release the money if the clinic could raise a matching $10
million. Building Commission member Sen. Pat Kreitlow, a Chippewa
Falls Democrat, says the clinic has secured the money.
Under the clinic's plans, the center would help prospective
dentists qualify for dental school by working with rural patients.
The center also would offer residencies to dental school graduates.
Kreitlow disclosed to the commission his wife serves on the
clinic's board of directors, but he doesn't see a conflict of
interest because she's an obstetrician and the dental center
wouldn't affect her salary.
