Wisconsin Public Service Corp. is
updating emergency plans for its hydroelectric dams, which could
include releasing major volumes of water that could inconvenience
people living downstream.
The utility says those residents will need to be ready to
evacuate during those events. WPS spokesman Bruce Crocker says it's
like being prepared for a tornado or other unlikely event.
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, WPS recommends that
people living near the Peshtigo River have battery-operated weather
radios. The utility also suggests they plan evacuation routes in
case of floods.
WPS singled out areas downstream from four dams along the river
that could be affected if a sudden water release were necessary.
They're areas seven to 17 miles downstream of Caldron Falls, High
Falls, Johnson Falls and Sandstone Rapids.
