State wildlife officials once again plan to
count deer in the chronic wasting disease zone from the air.

The Department of Natural Resources will conduct the survey by
helicopter and plane over the next few weeks, depending on the
weather. Helicopter surveys will take place about 100 feet above
tree-top level at speeds around 35 mph. Pilots will fly higher if
they see livestock in the area to avoid spooking the animals.
Some of the surveys already have been completed in the eastern
portion of the disease zone.

Agency biologists hope to complete their work by the end of next
month, but much depends on having enough snow to make deer visible.
