Farm News: Walker Shows First Signs Of Regulatory Reform

Governor-elect Scott Walker has released his "Regulatory Reform Info Paper."  The paper summarizes three different areas that Walker believes may need reform - and its got some Wisconsin dairy leaders excited.

Jerry Meissner, a Chili, Wisconsin dairy producer and President of Dairy Business Association, says the paper outlines three areas Walker feels need to be reformed;
the broad rulemaking authority of state agencies,
the lack of regional consideration when legally challenging rules and
a lack of accountability of the regulatory process.

According to Meissner, Walker proposes a solution in all three areas which would help Wisconsin's dairy businesses grow.  "Wisconsin dairy farms need this legislation.  It is time for rules to be based on laws that are passed by the legislature and not by individuals seeking costly, non-scientific, unpractical additional regulations which stop farmers from growing and expanding," Meissner said .

"Our dairy businesses have struggled to keep up with an onslaught of ever changing and increasing regulations state agencies have placed upon them," commented DBA Executive Director Laurie Fischer.  "Governor-elect Walker's paper is a true sign that Wisconsin is open for business.   We applaud these reforms and hope the legislature will vote on these measures as soon as possible."
