For those interested in starting, expanding, or improving a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) operation, register now for the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin 2011 Regional Workshop Roadshows. “The ABCs of CSAs” workshop will be held in January 2011 in East Troy, Viroqua, and Menomonie.
Start-up considerations, financial management, share planning, marketing, succession planting, member involvement, distribution, communication, member retention, and balancing multiple markets will be discussed. Barb Perkins of Vermont Valley Community Farms in Blue Mounds and Laura Frerichs of Loon Organics in Hutchinson, Minnesota will be the speakers for the workshops. Perkins and Frerichs will share their experience about the unique challenges and considerations of running a viable and successful CSA.

In Viroqua and Menomonie, the cost is $30 for the first registration and $15 for any additional registrations in the party. The cost for East Troy is $40 per registration.
These workshops are the first in a series planned for 2011. “Selling to Retail” is planned for February, and “Selling to Institutions” will be held in March.
