Some anglers were briefly stranded on Lake
Winnebago when a large crack developed in the ice.

Oshkosh police and fire departments got a call around 3 p.m.
Monday that about 15 to 20 people were stranded on the ice with
their vehicles.

Don Herman of the Otter Street Fishing Club tells the Oshkosh
Northwestern that fluctuating temperatures and ice conditions
caused the crack. Drivers had trouble getting over the crack when
it expanded to about two feet.

Emergency personnel and members of the fishing club directed the
stranded motorists to the narrowest part of the crack.
By 4:30 p.m. all the vehicles had made it to safety.
