Farm News: States Largest Dairy - Gets Energy Excellence AwardcommentsPosted: 01.06.2011 Currently the states largest dairy, Rosendale Dairy - is being recognized for its energy efficiency with the Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Management. Rosendale Dairy in fact is one of four agribusinesses catching the attention of state leaders for their cooperation with utilities and investments in technology to save energy. Rosendale Dairy has saved more than 3.6 million kilowatts of electricity and
6,000 therms of natural gas annually since 2006. The dairy has made the investment in equipment and day-to-day operations and are saving about $288,000 in energy costs annually. All of this saved energy ultimately benefits these agribusinesses neighbors. State officials say the four agribusinesses combined will save enough energy to power more then 600 homes in Wisconsin for a year. The other three businesses singled out for the
award include Floral Plant Growers, LLC of Denmark, McMillan Farms of Marshfield and Peterson's Dairy, LLC of Lena. These operations energy efficiency is equivalent to offsetting more than 11,500 barrels of oil from being burned and eliminating 9.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. The businesses worked with Focus on Energy, Alliant Energy, Marshfield Utilities, Oconto Electric Cooperative, We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service to capture the savings. |
