Farm News: Ag Tourism Has New BoardcommentsPosted: 01.06.2011
There were some decisions that had to made at the WI Agriculture Tourism Association's annual meeting in Wisconsin Dells. Three of the existing board members had served the maximum two years allowed by the group - and there was one board slot that remained open. Fortunately ag-tourism in Wisconsin is gaining interest and momentum with the goal of promoting the rural lifestyle. The group also concentrates on building partnerships within the ag tourism community, and providing tools to encourage sustainable economic growth - and raising awareness of Wisconsin's agriculture. Kelly Murray of Tomah was re-elected president of the Wisconsin Agricultural Tourism Association during the Wisconsin Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Conference. Murray is the tourism marketing coordinator for the Tomah Convention and Visitors Bureau. Her responsibilities include promoting the area’s cranberry and Amish tours.
Elected as vice president was Noreen Rueckert, Green County Tourism Director and Green County Cheese Days Festival coordinator, Monroe. Selected as treasurer was Ross Ament, Ament Associates, Poynette.
Newly elected directors include Joylene Reavis of Sugar Maple Emu Farm, Brodhead; Julie Govin of Govin's Meats and Berries, Menomonie, Phil Waldvogel of Waldvogel's Farm, Burnett; and Barbara Hendricks, Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center director, Warrens.
Also serving on the board of directors is Nodji Van Wychen of Wetherby Cranberry Company, Warrens, and Don Schuster of Schuster’s Playtime Farm, Deerfield.
Stepping down from the board after completing six years of service were Carol Wiersma of Maiden Rock Apples and Maiden Rock Winery & Cidery, Stockholm; Christine Rebout, executive director of the Janesville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Lorry Erickson, Monroe County Economic Development and Tourism Committee's iBuyMoCo coordinator.
Teresa Engel, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin program director and Patrick Reinsma, Wisconsin Department of Tourism economic development specialist serve as an ex-officio directors.
