Farm News: WI Doing Well At American Farm ConventioncommentsPosted: 01.10.2011 The weather might not be very nice in Atlanta, Georgia, but it's treating our Wisconsin Farm Bureau members just fine! Monday, Wisconsin will find out if Troy Sellen of Oconto Falls has made it into the "Final Four" for the AFBF Discussion Meet. As of Sunday, Sellen had wrapped up competition as part of the "Sweet Sixteen" and wil learn results later today. AFBF President, Bob Stallman not only presented Wisconsin with the "Award for Excellence" - two county farm bureau's have been recognized nationally for their ag education efforts. In Wisconsin, we may have become accustomed to June dairy events - but brunch organized by Shawano county farm bureau members caught naitonal attention. On the fourth Sunday in June, the Shawano County Farm Bureau invites the public to attend a hearty breakfast cooked and served on the farm. The event is organized by the organization’s dairy committee and typically is held on a dairy farm, reflecting the industry’s importance to Shawano County agriculture. The 2010 event was the organization’s 27th annual brunch, which attracted more than 5,000 people. Rock county just launched their "Focus on Agriculture" tour - and it's already a national winner. This past summer, Rock County Farm Bureau invited elected officials to a three-hour farm tour and speaker program designed to make them more knowledgeable about the agriculture industry, build good relationships and establish Rock County Farm Bureau members as the face of farming in the county. Land value assessments and the economic impact of agriculture to the county and state were among the topics discussed. After the program, all were invited to enjoy a free lunch while participating in a question-and-answer period. Those were the two Wisconsin programs highlighted during the Atlanta convention.
