State agriculture officials are urging people to sign up for advance notice of pesticide applications.

The Landscape Pesticide Advance Notice Registry offers a way for
homeowners and renters to learn about pesticide applications
scheduled for lawns, trees and shrubs in their neighborhood.
Agriculture officials say people use the information to close
windows or keep children and pets inside.

The registry is free, but people must complete an application
listing the addresses on their block or immediately adjoining
blocks they're interested in. Notices will begin arriving in
mid-March through telephone calls, recorded messages, postcards and
notices left on doorsteps.

The deadline for registering is Feb. 1.
Sign-up forms are available on the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and
Consumer Protection's website or by calling the agency at
608-224-4616.
