New state Department of Natural Resources
Secretary Cathy Stepp is set to attend her first Natural Resources
Board meeting since taking over the agency.

Republican Gov. Scott Walker appointed Stepp secretary last
month.
 
Conservationists are worried Stepp, a former Republican
state senator and business owners, plans to roll back environmental
protections. Stepp has said the DNR can both protect the
environment and help businesses expand.

Stepp must work through the board, though. Its current members
were all appointed by former Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle, which could
make it difficult for Stepp to make major changes.

Stepp and board members are due to attend a board seminar on
lead pollution Tuesday afternoon. A regular meeting follows on
Wednesday.
