Farm News: Super Bowl Brings Dairy Inquiries

The office at the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board in Madison has been humming with activity ever since the Packers found out they're going to the Super Bowl - but that's not real unusual at this time of the year.

Matt Joyce with the WMMB visited with Pam Jahnke on Tuesday and said that retail sales of cheese historically soar about 27 percent over average the week leading up to the Super Bowl.  Joyce did admit that they're getting more inquiries from out-of-state media about Wisconsin cheese and dairy industry though.

"You know it's interesting Pam,"  Joyce explained, "The Packers were officially founded in 1919 and Wisconsin started its "America's Dairyland" title in 1910."  Joyce also noted that both the Packers and the Wisconsin cheese industry are champions - bringing home multiple world titles to the state.

And then there's fan interaction.

Joyce said that WMMB retail managers are already planning more then 1,370 football-themed in-store Wisconsin cheese and dairy promotions leading up to the game - nationwide.  There will even be somewhere around 270 of those Wisconsin dairy parties at retail locations in the Dallas area and other states in the south.

Joyce says the WMMB has also extended its support of the Mike McCarthy Show through Super Bowl Sunday as well.
