The Wisconsin Pork Association presented Senator Dan Kapanke with the annual WPA ‘Friend of the Industry Award,’ which recognizes a legislator who provides legislative support to the pork industry.
Senator Kapanke represent the 32nd Senate District, and he currently chairs the Senate Ag Committee and is lead sponsor of current legislation to extend the livestock modernization tax credit.
During his time in the Wisconsin legislature, his common-sense approach has helped the pork industry successfully defend pork industry interests in issues that have included animal rights proposals, Karst legislation, groundwater legislation and climate change legislation patterned after California rules that would have resulted in sharp increases in Wisconsin utility and energy costs by restricting the state's ability to use Canadian oil. Senator Kapanke was also instrumental in helping to defeat proposed changes in Farmland Use Value, as well as in retaining key capital gains exemptions that otherwise would have been eliminated under the 2010 budget bill. A small businessman himself, Senator Dan Kapanke is a proven champion of Wisconsin business, agriculture and the pork industry.
