Farm News: Small Fruit Producer Forum Helps Find NichecommentsPosted: 02.11.2011 The continued interest and demand by consumers for local grown foods and the growing wine industry in the state has created opportunities for land owners of different sizes to generate some additional income by growing and selling small fruit on part of their acreage. Some of these enterprises have grown and prospered and some have not been very successful. The key to success is having a good understanding both production and marketing of the crop having a solid plan addressing the different aspects of growing and selling the product before beginning production. UW Extension will be holding a small fruit workshop geared towards people with an interest in small scale commercial fruit enterprises on Friday March 11th at the Log Cabin in Bangor Wisconsin. The all day workshop will start with registration at 8:30am and presentations beginning promptly at 9:00 am.
Topics that will be covered UW Extension Specialists and Agriculture Agents at the workshop include:
All participants will receive a copy of the 2011 Midwest Small Fruit and Grape Spray Guide which includes conventional and organic programs for pest management of small fruits and grapes.
To pre-register for this workshop visit the La Crosse County webpage for a brochure at: http://lacrosse.uwex.edu/, or contact them by phone at 608-785-9593.
