Farm News: DNR Says Weather Is Riskiest Of The Year

With temperatures moving into the mid and upper 40's this week - Wisconsin's losing a lot of snow cover, and running its highest risk of manure runoff.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials are hoping that farmers will view the video on this page to remind them how serious a manure runoff issue can become.  With the heavy snowpack that covers most of the state - officials estimate that we'll see anywhere from 2-4 inches of running water generated from this melt - in some areas as much as 6 inches of running water.

Officials say that water will carry with it whatever manure farmers have spread over the past few days.  They're encouraging farmers to stay off fields and resist spreading until the weather returns to more normal winter patterns.
