Green County Farm Bureau, UW-Extension and local Green County producer groups have organized a media training workshop geared toward farmers, agribusinesses, 4-H and FFA members or any other agriculture enthusiasts looking to learn how to be a better spokesperson for agriculture. This program will be held at the Green County Justice Center Multi-Purpose Rooms, 2841 6th Street, in Monroe on Saturday, February 26th. Registration will begin at 8:30am with the program running from 9 to 3:00 pm.

The event will bring key speakers from the agriculture media to help producers and youth members become better advocates in agriculture and learn how to be the ones to step up and tell their story. Pam Jahnke, the fabulous Farm Babe, will be on hand that day as the Keynote speaker, followed by a panel discussion with various professionals from the agriculture media. Attendees will have an opportunity to put their skills to work in breakout sessions focused on interviewing skills with a media person and attendees will learn how to respond positively to some tough questions. During lunch, learn how others have used outlets like YouTube and social media to reach broader audiences as a way to educate others about agriculture.

All speakers will have a variety of tips and suggestions on how to address these issues as well as offering a great opportunity for 4-H and FFA exhibitors to learn how to respond to situations focused on production practices on the farm or toward show animals.

“It is more important than ever for those directly involved in the day to day operations of the farm, or work in the industry to step up and share their agricultural story with others.” Says Alissa Grenawalt, UWEX Green County 4-H and Youth Development Agent. “Everyone involved in agriculture can play a key role in educating consumers about what farmers and agribusinesses do to feed and fuel the world.”

There is no cost to attend the event, however to assist with planning for lunch and materials, RSVPS are needed. There will be a number of door prizes also. To RSVP for the Agriculture Media Training Workshop or learn how to be a sponsor, please email or call Alissa Grenawalt at alissa.grenawalt@ces.uwex.edu or (608) 328-9516 by Friday, February 18.
