Ryan and Michelle Keller of Richland Center were named one of four national winners at the Outstanding Young Farmer (OYF) Awards Congress this weekend. They are partners in Junction View Dairy, which has about 900 Holstein cows and 1,800 crop acres.
The Kellers are the 15th national winners from Wisconsin and have 2 children: Wesley and Paige. The other three 2011 national winners included: John and Stacy Melick, New Jersey; Chad and Danielle Budy, Oklahoma; and Joseph and Dawn Geremia, Connecticut. Top ten finalists from across the nation were invited to attend the Congress.
The candidates toured the National Farm Machinery Show while in Louisville along with many past state OYF winners. Candidates were judged on the progress in their agricultural career, soil and water conservation practices and contributions to their community, state and nation.
Kellers won state honors in February 2010 and were sponsored at the local level by the Richland Center Agriculture Agency and Richland Center Jaycees OYF. Ryan is a third generation OYF; his parents Gordon and Marsha were local winners in 1982 as well as his grandparents, Theron and Jenna Keller in 1959
.
Arkansas will host the 2012 Congress and Wisconsin will nominate 2011 state OYF winners Brian & Renee Schaal of Burlington.
