Farm News: Local FS/Growmarks Step Up For Ag In The ClassroomcommentsPosted: 02.25.2011
To support Agriculture in the Classroom and agricultural literacy programs, Frontier FS (Jefferson), Conserv FS (Woodstock, IL), Servco FS (Antigo), and GROWMARK, Inc. cooperatives presented the Wisconsin Farm Bureau (WFB) Foundation a check for $3,263. GROWMARK, Inc. provided this through FS Brand Seed Corn, FS HiSoy® soybean seed, and FS WL alfalfa seed sold in Wisconsin.
“We are very appreciative of GROWMARK, Inc., and the member cooperatives’ support of Ag in the Classroom. This program allows farmers to help fund agricultural literacy efforts while purchasing needed supplies for their operations,” says Darlene Arneson, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation Director and Ag in the Classroom Coordinator. “As more teachers, students and parents are further removed from the farm, this funding allows the Ag in the Classroom program more options to help educate them about where their food, fiber and fuel come from.”
County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom programs that meet minimum sales and activity requirements received funding that can be used for agricultural literacy programs and activities. Those counties include: Columbia, Dane, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Kenosha, Lafayette, Langlade, Marathon, Marquette, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Shawano, Walworth, Waukesha, Waupaca and Wood.
