Want to learn how to trap shoot in a safe and fun environment? La Crosse County 4-H is offering a trap shooting program for youth ages 12 and up who have completed a Hunter’s Safety Course. Youth do not need to be 4-H members to participate in this program. Certified 4-H leaders and experienced trap shooters serve as instructors in this program. The program, which starts on April 25th, is offered for 5 sessions through May 23rd on Monday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Gunslick Gun Club located on Briggs Road, Holmen.

The 5 sessions including safety instruction, insurance, use of shotguns if needed, ear protection, all ammunition, clay pigeons and the facility is available at a total cost of $20. (4-H members qualify for a special rate) Shotguns will be available for use so families can have their children try trap shooting without having to purchase a gun. Participants will also be eligible for additional tournaments in the summer.

Youth will learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms and much more. The overall focus of 4-H shooting sports programs is the development of youth as individuals and provides young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.

The program is sponsored by and made possible through a donation by Wings Over Wisconsin and the La Crosse County 4-H Leaders Association. Registrations are due April 18th and will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. Anyone interested or needing more information should call the La Crosse County UW-Extension Office at 608.785.9593 or visit:  http://lacrosse.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-development/4-h-activities/
