Farm News: Farm Bureau Supports State Budget

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Bill Bruins issued
the following statement regarding Governor Scott Walker's biennial state
budget proposal.

"The legislative policies established by Wisconsin Farm Bureau's member
delegates have long supported government living within its means. We are
pleased to see a budget proposal that acknowledges that philosophy. We
elected the governor to make the tough choices that will ultimately get
our state's fiscal situation back on solid footing. What he has proposed
will impact all of us. But this budget proposal represents true reform:
it curbs spending; it does not raid segregated funds; it does not
increase taxes and fees, and it does not rely on one-time federal
stimulus dollars or other budgetary gimmicks.

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is now thoroughly examining the
impacts of the budget proposal, agency by agency, on Wisconsin's $59
billion agricultural industry. Our positions on various budget items
will be a centerpiece of the discussion at our annual Ag Day at the
Capitol event, set for Wednesday, March 9.

We applaud Governor Walker's proposal to reduce the structural deficit
by 90 percent without raiding segregated funds. Just as our Wisconsin
farm families have always had to budget for a volatile economic climate,
a budget plan for a frugal government must be based on a simple
principle: Less income means less spending.

Wisconsin's largest general farm organization, our members and the
industry we represent look forward to helping Governor Walker grow the
economy and create 250,000 private sector jobs."
