A Green Bay agriculture instructor is one of seven in the nation receiving recognition for promoting agriculture literacy.

Betty Krcma, agriculture instructor at Washington Middle School in Green Bay will receive a $1,500 scholarship to attend the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL in June.

Several hundred teachers are expected to attend the conference, where they will explore incorporating real-life agricultural applications into language arts, math, nutrition, science and social studies lessons. Scholarship recipients were judged on past use of innovative programs to educate students about agriculture as well as future plans to implement information gained at the AITC conference in their own classrooms and share the information with other teachers.

Wisconsin also picked up a multiple $500 mini-grant's through the American Farm Bureau Foundation's White-Reinhardt Fund for Education program.

In Brown county - they'll use their $500 grant for circulating "Red Barn Learning Center" kits for elementary grade students.

In Jackson county - their grant will fund ag activity kits on apples, bees, cranberries, corn, soybeans, dairy, sunflowers, forestry and nutrition.

Manitowoc county will move forward with their traveling ag presentation and materials kit, and the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation picked up $500 for their project, "The Agriculture—Bringing Music to our Lives".  The project takes ag-related songs and incorporates them into lessons.
