A special honor earned by a Grant county livestock team has them scrambling for financial assistance.

In November, the Grant County Livestock Judging Team won Third Place Overall Honors at the 2010 North American International Livestock Exposition.  With that honor came an invitation to judge at the internationally recognized Royal Highland Livestock Show in Scotland.  The team accepted.  This is the first time Wisconsin has ever placed this high in the history of Wisconsin 4-H livestock judging.

The team is close to reaching their goal of raising $20,000 toward expenses to participate in the competition, but have two new options for the communities' support.

The team is planning an auction of a Holstein calf donated by the Esser Family that will be sold at auction on Friday, March 25th at Bloomington Livestock Exchange at 10 a.m.

On Sunday, April 3, during 2K Cattle’s Angus Bull & Female Sale, a stained glass, framed piece donated in cooperation with Dustin Henningfeld will be auctioned off with proceeds donated to the Grant County Livestock Judging Team for their trip to Scotland.

Anyone interested in placing a bid that can not attend either sale, may contact Keri Retallick at 608-778-7250.   If you would like to support the team’s trip to Scotland, please send to:  Grant Co. 4-H Livestock Team, c/o Cathy McPhail, Youth Assistant, P.O. Box 31, Lancaster, WI  53813.  If you have questions about the program, please contact Cathy at 608-723-2125 or e-mail cathy.mcphail@ces.uwex.edu.
