The Fourth Annual Aquaculture Poster Contest was a big success in 2011 according to state officials.

The purpose of the poster contest is to promote creative thought regarding the benefits of growing fish in Wisconsin, how aquaculture uses natural resources in an environmentally sound manner, promoting rural communities and producing safe, locally grown products. The theme of this year’s contest was “Aquaculture is Water Dependent”. The theme, which was the same for the 2011 Wisconsin Aquaculture Conference, emphasizes that Wisconsin fish farms depend on clean water to raise their crops, practice reasonable utilization of water, and are users but not consumers of water.

This contest was open to a Wisconsin schools and the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) sent out notices to over 350 agriculture programs in the state.

The posters were judged at the 16th Annual Wisconsin Aquaculture Conference.

Three winners were chosen based on originality, artistic appeal and understanding of Wisconsin Aquaculture. The winning posters will be on display at the Northern Aquaculture Demonstration Facility during the coming year.

The winners are:

First Place $100                     Second Place $50                   Third Place $25
