A long-time agricultural leader in Wisconsin was remembered again on Wednesday with the 2011 Donald Peterson Technology Transfer Award.

The award, presented by the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days board of directors, was created to recognize educators involved with the annual show that concentrate on educating passers-by about their field of expertise.  The 2011 award went to the Field Crop Demonstration Team of Bryan Jensen, Jerry Clark and Bill Halfman.

The Field Crop Demo team created a demonstration area at the Pierce County WFTD show that gave farmers and consultants an in-field look at different UW recommendations and research programs.  The demonstration plot focused on soybeans and a two pass herbicide program that offered not only information about insect management and environmental impacts - it also translated to economic profitability.  The plot also integrated alfalfa production and proper manure management applications.

Jensen, an outreach program manager, is the Integrated Pest Management Coordinator within the Horticulture Department at the UW.

Clark is a lecturer and Crops and Soils Educator in Chippewa County Extension.
Halfman is an associate professor and Agricultural Agent in Monroe County Extension.

The team was presented a $1,000 check that will be used to support the Lee Milligan Scholarship Fund at  UW-River Falls Foundation.  Milligan was the St. Croix County Agricultural Agent and was very involved in helping to begin and coordinate the 2010 show.  Unfortunately, Milligan passed away very suddenly just months before the show itself at the age of 55.
