Farm News: Schultz Resigns From WI Farmers Union

Wisconsin Farmers Union President Darin Von Ruden has announced that Scott Schultz has resigned as the organization's executive director.

The resignation was effective April 15. Advertisements for the position had
been issued earlier last week, as Von Ruden and Schultz had been discussing
the possibility of the change.

Schultz, a long-time journalist and author, said his resignation will open
time for other endeavors, including development of his nonprofit
organization The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the Arts, and
doing more writing.

"I believe I can serve rural Wisconsin's people, including farmers and even
Wisconsin Farmers Union, better by not being tied to the sorts of day-to-day
administrative duties required of a statewide farm organization's executive
director," Schultz said.

Von Ruden said he and Schultz have, for several weeks, been discussing the
potential for administrative changes.

"Scott felt the timing was right," Von Ruden said. "He's a writer at heart,
and feels strongly about getting out and having the chance to write about
the countryside and people he cares so much about."
