Sandy Ridge Farm will host the First Annual Spring Shearing Day and the grand opening of the Sandy Ridge Farm Gift Shop on May 21, 2011.  This event is open to the public and the admission is free.  The public will be narrated through the steps of shearing an alpaca while Keith Bancroft, of KeLe Alpacas, shears alpacas.  Sandy Ridge Farm and Deb Skubal will host an Alpaca to Apparel project where the first fleece of the day will be processed into a prize that could be worn home.  While watching hand designers processes this fleece, the public can try their hand at carding, spinning, and weaving.  After the fleeces are all shorn, there will be a mock fleece show in the gift shop.  The gift shop will carry a full line of alpaca products from the alpaca to its finished product.

While browsing listen to live music performed by local musicians featuring performances by members of the Kewaunee High School Music Department at 9:30, and performances by James Wilquet to follow.

Kids of all ages can walk an alpaca for two dollars while navigating over obstacles and through beautiful gardens.  The experience will leave participants wanting more.  After walking an alpaca, the more competitive type can participate in relay races.  The only alpaca in the state to pull an alpaca cart will be demonstrating his talent in front of a home crowd.  Local artists and alpaca breeders will have their products available for sale in the new gift shop and vendors are welcome to bring in their booths and set up shop.  There will be food available prepared by the Sandy Ridge Farm family.  Participants are welcome to wander through the barn and meet the sheep, pot belly pigs, chickens, bunny rabbits, and many more animals.  There is something for everyone at Sandy Ridge Farm’s First Annual Spring Shearing Day and Gift Shop Grand Opening Celebration.

This event is cosponsored with KeLe Alpacas.

Sandy Ridge Farm is located about fifteen miles east of Green Bay on Kewaunee Road (WI- 29) and .3 miles south on Church Road; just north of the town of Krok, WI.
