Farm News: Dr. Bill Wendorf Receives Distinguished Service AwardcommentsPosted: 04.21.2011 The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) is proud to announce Dr. W.L. “Bill” Wendorff, professor emeritus in the UW-Madison food science department, is the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes individuals whose outstanding contributions have helped develop current dairy manufacturing trends, provided a foundation for future research and development, established a trusted partnership with dairy processing companies, or whose support of quality dairy manufacturing serves as a model for others. Dr. Wendorff was a technical director in the food industry for 20 years, and joined the UW in 1989. He played an important part in the renaissance of cheese extension education, and applying the research done at the UW into real world applications. During his time at the UW he built the Wisconsin Cheese Technology Short Course, and was an architect of the Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker Program. Dr. Wendorff has also worked with the Center for Dairy Research to develop more than 16 different short courses covering cheese, whey, cultured dairy products, and environmental issues for the dairy industry.
Although he is now retired, Dr. Wendorff’s passion for the dairy industry keeps him active as he continues his research work through projects with the Center for Dairy Research.
