Macy Sarbacker, the 19-year-old daughter of John and Michelle Sarbacker, has been selected as Dane County's Fairest of the Fair for 2011. The competitive event took place over the weekend.
Sarbacker has been an active member of the Paoli 4-H Fireballs club having served as past President, Vice President and Secretary. Her project work has included dairy cattle, photography, communications, clothing, child development, youth leadership, veterinary science, woodworking, videography, citizenship, crops and flowers. Macy is also involved with the Dane County Junior Holstein Association and Verona FFA where she participates in numerous community projects such as Coats for Kids and Toys for Tots. She is Vice-President of the Verona Area Student Council, a member of National Honor Society, managing editor of her school newspaper and active in choir.
Sarbacker, who grew up working on her family’s purebred Holstein dairy operation, will be graduating from Verona High School this spring with plans to attend Iowa State University. Macy’s goals include graduating from college and the desire to travel following college. Her career aspirations include a wish to serve with the Spanafrica organization using her college education and skills to assist the people of Africa and others.
She will be officially crowned Dane County Fairest of the Fair on Saturday, June 11 at the 33rd Dane County Dairy Breakfast to be held at the John and Julie Haag Family Farm in Dane, WI. Macy will then serve as the goodwill ambassador for the Dane County Fair and the hundreds of youth exhibitors who participate in that event each year.
First runner-up in the competition was Karsen Haag, daughter of Virgil and Dawn Haag of Mount Horeb. Karsen has been an active member of the Twin Valley 4-H club and Dane County Holstein Juniors having competed in dairy cattle, crops, foods & nutrition and archery projects at the local fairs.
During the selection process, candidates for the Dane County Fairest of the Fair participated in individual and group interviews as well as presenting a one-minute prepared radio advertisement for the Dane County Fair.
