Talk to most Wisconsinites - and they can tell you a story about a barn. Maybe they grew up with it, family owned it, they watched it as they grew - but they have a story.
Lake Geneva passed Wisconsin television producer, Tom Laughlin and his public broadcasting programs about old barns of Wisconsin and the Midwest, have heard amazing stories. Now those stories and examples are being presented FREE to the public, this Thursday in Prairie du Sac.
“Wisconsin Barns – Touchstones to the Past” will be presented Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm at Culver’s new offices at 1240 Water St., Prairie du Sac.
The programs have brought old barn and countryside stories to viewers in 93 million public broadcasting households in the past five years. The presentation is a kickoff to a series of presentations that Tom plans for local libraries and small town theaters in Wisconsin.
In an interview with Pam Jahnke, Laughlin says he's not a barn expert - but an exchange point for stories, information and entertainment.
"After the initial warm-up, before we watch the show, I ask people if there are any immediate questions and there might be one or two, but then I tell people that afterwards I can guarantee that many of them will have questions or input and they always do,” says Tom. “It’s a real fun hour or ninety minutes of give and take on the subject. A lot of people just plain love our old barns.”
This presentation is always very popular with audiences, he says. Light refreshments will be served.
Laughlin tells Jahnke he hopes this is the beginning of a tour featuring the beautiful barns of the Midwest.
