A storm packing powerful winds knocked down trees and cut power to thousands of residents in central and northern Wisconsin.

Winds gusting up to 40 mph Monday brought down power lines and
caused nearly 9,000 Wisconsin Public Service Corp. customers to
lose service. WPSC says another 4,000 in Antigo and 4,000 in
Minocqua also lost power. Utility spokeswoman Kelly Zagrzebski
says about 400 customers remained without service early Tuesday, but should have power restored by Wednesday.

In Weston, the storm pulled up a tree's root system and the gas line along with it. The fire department and a utility crew responded and clamped the gas line.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department Lt. Fred Goch tells the Wausau Daily Herald that deputies responded to about 20 calls of downed trees and power lines Monday afternoon.
