Farm News: Equity Livestock Awards 10 Scholarships

The Baraboo-based Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association has announced the
names of 10 college students who will receive $500 scholarships. The winners were chosen from more than 100 applicants this year. The scholarships are funded through Cooperative Network’s Federated Youth Foundation and selected by the Cooperative Network.

To be eligible, students or their parents are patron members of Equity Livestock. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters at a post secondary college, university or technical school, as well as maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale. One recipient was selected in each of Equity’s 10 districts.

Winning scholarship recipients include:
• Distict I - Johnson Creek/Arlington — Lauren Holterman, Watertown, studying food science and life science communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
• District II - Lomira — Ashley Julka, Rosendale, studying agriculture marketing communications at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
• District III - Reedsville — Matthew Colle, Luxemburg, studying animal science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
• District IV - Bonduel/Marion — Claire LeFevre, Luxemburg, studying animal science/veterinary medicine at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
• District V - Stratford — Brandon Nigon, Greenwood, studying biological systems engineering - machinery systems at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
• District VI - Altoona/Barron — Kelton Splett, Almena, studying sport management at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
• District VII - Sparta — Marcus Buchholz, Wilton, studying accounting and fi nance at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
• District VIII - Monroe — Daniel Borsdorf, Stockton, Illinois, studying veterinary medicine at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign.
• District IX - Richland Center — Kelsey Lind, studying dental hygiene at the Chippewa Valley Technical College.
• District X - Waukon — Dayna Gossling, Waucoma, Iowa, studying biology at Wartburg College.
Applicants were judged on their scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, and academic and personal goals.
 
Equity operates 12 auction markets and services producers in seven states with the marketing, managing and fi nancing of their agricultural businesses.
