Didion Milling has been awarded the Norfolk Southern Corporation’s (NYSE: NSC) Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award for 2010 for their safe handling of hazardous chemical products.

This award, presented annually for 15 years, is earned by a company or facility that ships more than 1,000 carloads of regulated hazardous material over the railroad’s 22-state network without incident for the year.  For 2010, 49 Norfolk Southern customers earned that safety award and Didion is the only customer in Wisconsin with the distinction.  Didion ships ethanol products via Norfolk Southern rail and is one of thirteen ethanol facilities throughout the country that has achieved this.

“We congratulate these valued customers for their industry-leading performance in chemical safety,” said Norfolk Southern CEO Wick Moorman. “With their absolute focus on best safety practices, they demonstrate on a daily basis the value of freight rail as the safest, most reliable, and environmentally friendly way to move chemical products that are vital to American households and the global economy. Our hats are off to these companies and facilities for their commitment to safety and for partnering with us to help make Norfolk Southern the safest Class 1 railroad in North America.”

John Didion, Didion CEO said, “This safety award is truly for the employees at Didion.  This recognition is an excellent reminder of the continued emphasis on safety at our facilities.  We value our relationship with Norfolk Southern for our product’s continued safety even after leaving our site.”

Didion is a family owned operation with more than 150 employees and four locations in Wisconsin. For nearly 40 years, the Didion family of companies has been an employer and innovator in Wisconsin’s Agricultural community producing products.
